Job description
Niagara Speech Connections is looking for a creative and energetic Communicative Disorders Assistant (CDA) to provide speech and language therapy under the guidance and supervision of a Speech Language Pathologist (SLP). The applicant will primarily work with children, with some opportunities to work with older adults. The caseload will primarily include clients with articulation disorders, stuttering, expressive language, receptive language, literacy, and autism spectrum disorders. The successful candidate would start with part-time hours (highest demand for after-school sessions) from Monday to Friday and would transition to full-time hours as caseload increases. The applicant will be paid on an hourly basis. We pay our staff for all work-related time rather than simply on a client-by-client basis – this includes time dedicated to client sessions, session preparation, post-session notes and all other work-related tasks. We also pay our staff for their time that would have been spent on sessions in the event of last-minute cancellations and no shows. There is an opportunity for the hired applicant to define their own schedule around client needs. The successful applicant will be expected to commence training as soon as possible.
The successful applicant must have experience and confidence working in a one-on-one session with children, successfully instituting speech goals catered to each client. The position will require the individual to communicate speech goals and progress with parents, create homework packages for families to work on, schedule appointments, and conduct billing transactions. The successful candidate must be available to work flexible hours, and maintain adequate liability insurance. A Police Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
Please see the following requirements:
Major Responsibilities:
- To support the recommendations made by the SLP regarding speech and language programming and goals for clients with communication difficulties involving listening, speaking, reading, and/or writing.
- Sit in and participate on language assessments etc., alongside the supervising SLP.
- To create individualized communication and literacy materials that support a child’s communication and/or literacy development.
- Conduct one-on-one sessions with or without the direct supervision of the managing SLP.
- Conducting the billing process upon the completion of each session.
- Communicate with clients and client’s parents regarding speech goals, progress, and potential at-home activities.
- Schedule future sessions at the client’s request.
- Write post-session notes detailing each session’s progress, creating future goals to review with the SLP.
Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
- Communicative Disorders Assistant graduate certificate is required.
- Experience working with children is preferred.
- Proficient verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills are required.
Additional Information
- If selected for an interview, you will be prompted to provide at least one (1) professional, supervisory references (including full name, position title, work location/organization, and email address). We do not contact references prior to the interview.
- Interviews can be conducted either via zoom or in person.
